The stop smoking method by hypnosis involves hypnotherapy techniques among suggestions, positive affirmations that help you give up smoking. This method deals with the psychological issue either than just a physical craving for nicotine. The patient is advised by the hypnotherapist to look into the future in a situation where cigarette is out of sight. In this way, the smoker is encouraged to thing positively, and is convinced in this way to give up smoking.

The hypnotherapist tries to ensure that the smoker’s mind gets the conditioned idea (the benefits that result when the cigarette is stubbed out, for example), because once this happens, the smoker’s subconscious spurns the idea of smoking whenever the urge arises.

During the session that the smoker has with his hypnotherapist, positive thoughts are burnt into his mind, this session being followed later by a few more depending on the progress achieved. The smoker also receives a CD which contains stop smoking messages, the whole idea being reinforcing the value of giving up smoking.

Hypnotherapist believe that while the smoker does not make an hones attempt to give up smoking, he starts dealing with withdrawal symptoms, that are mainly caused by conditioned responses (the smoker consciously believes that is very difficult to give up smoking). Because of this, the smoker’s mind tells him that it is a difficult proposition (task) and this leads to no guilt involved whenever a smoker fails in his attempt of quitting.

That’s when hypnotherapist tries to break this mind set, and generates new conditioned responses, that are positive, and give the smoker confidence and trust in giving up smoking.

An example of conditioned response may be as pressing the finger with the thumb and holding them just like that for about half of minute. For smokers in the urge of a smoke, is recommended to take three deep breaths and drink a glass of water, because this way, the urge is diluted.
